MAKYBE Diva has been crowned the best racehorse in history after reigning supreme in an amazing Melbourne Cup yesterday.The Diva bolted clear of her rivals to win the Cup for the third year in a row under a blazing sun at Flemington before 106,479 fans.

Makybe Diva was backed for a fortune around Australia and shortened to $3.80 with the TAB hours before the race.

It was a four-horse duel in the bookies' ring, with Eye Popper ($7.50), Leica Falcon ($6) and Railings ($6.50) joining the Diva ($4.20) in the battle for the punters' purse.

Carson Kressley, tennis star Lleyton Hewitt, former premier Jeff Kennett, evergreen singer Stevie Nicks and Geelong footballer Gary Ablett Jr were among the celebrities to revel in the spring carnival atmosphere.

Hollywood actor Adam Garcia, Eva Longgoria (from Desperate Housewives) and the daughter of boxer Muhammad Ali, Rasheda Ali, were also seen.
